Traveling … what to visit in Asia

Traveling … what to visit in Asia

A several-month-long journey through Southeast Asia surprised us every day with beautiful (or less) places. On more than one occasion we picked our jaws off the floor with delight, but we must admit that we were sometimes disappointed with some areas. In this post, we decided to focus on favorite places and create our subjective list of TOP 10 places in Asia. The choice was not easy and it was hard for us to limit ourselves to only ten places out of five countries we visited (Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore). In the end, it worked, come on!

MYANMAR – SHWEDAGON PAGODA

We are not in favor of temples. Really, it’s not our cup of tea. However, when we went to the Buddhist Shwedagon Pagoda in the Burmese city of Yangon at sunset and heard the magical sound of a thousand bells fluttering in the wind, we knew that this moment would stay in our hearts for a long time! The setting sun, the golden-lit pagoda, the pleasant warmth of candles all around and the smell of incense… Magic!

MALAYSIA – CAMERON HIGHLANDS

Tea hills in Malaysia are our favorite! It’s a strange region of the country with a specific microclimate. It’s sunny until noon, and from 3:00 p.m. it‘s raining every day! And because we of you who love nature and open spaces, we went here first thing in the morning to enjoy the beautiful weather! It was a fun day! We got to Cameron Highlands by three hitchhikers, drank delicious tea and struggled so hard through the bushes that Agata’s trousers ripped in the crotch by about 40 cm

CAMBODIA – KOH RONG SAMLOEM

The most paradise island we visited during the entire 3-month trip to Southeast Asia. There is no electricity at night, the Internet is an invention available only in pubs, and time is practically non-existent here. The days pass lazily playing cards, walking along the long sandy beaches, sipping fruit shakes. Our favorite island so far!

THAILAND – BANGKOK

Within a few months we were in Bangkok three times and each time the city delighted us with something. The first time we fell in love with the nightlife, street life. The second time Bangkok bought us Thai cuisine. We celebrated the last visit with a drink on the 61st floor of the sky bar and only then did we realize how incredibly big this metropolis is!

LAOS – VANG VIENG

The most picturesque town in Laos! A lazy inner tube trip on the Mekong, scooter trips through the charming wilderness or an evening whiskey consumed in the company of new friends from the hostel… all this made Vang Vieng stay in our hearts for a long time!

MYANMAR – BAGAN

Dozens of balloons at sunrise over the pagodas in Bagan are undoubtedly one of  the most beautiful views we have ever seen! The tops of the temples rising from the horizon seem to have no end here.

MALAYSIA – GEORGETOWN

But we had fun looking for the famous murals in Georgetown! The charming, narrow streets of the city are filled with the smells of local cuisines. Georgetown is also famous for having the best cuisine in all of  Malaysia, which we have checked for ourselves and we totally agree with this statement! We still remember the taste of delicious, roast duck and the insane, sweet dessert cendol!

SINGAPORE

We got to Singapore by accident, because from here we had a flight back to Polish. We spent the last 4 days in  the city of the lion, which stole our hearts exceptionally! It didn’t matter that we ate Chinese soups in the hotel room, because it was too expensive in the city. Modern Singapore is truly stunning! What we liked the most was the night light shows on huge tree installations – Supertrees.

LAOS – KUANG SI FALLS

The Lao waterfalls of Kuang Si reminded us a bit of the Plitvice Lakes in Croatia. They are not as big as their European counterparts, but swimming in the intimate, turquoise lagoons made us feel like we were in paradise!

MALAYSIA – PETRONAS TOWERS

If we had to point out the most beautiful skyscraper we’ve ever seen, it would be the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur. Surrounded by the pink glow of the setting sun and magically illuminated, they made us drive halfway through the city twice to see this beautiful, big-city spectacle again! Even though you can’t see it in the picture, the towers are really gigantic!
