What are extreme sports? Attempts to define
The definition of extreme sports can vary depending on who it is used by and for what purpose. It is referred to differently in the dictionary of the Polish language and differently by insurance companies. Insurers classify activity data based on their own contracts and criteria. For this reason, there is also a division into extreme and high-risk sports. For example, extreme sports include air sports with the exception of ballooning, parachuting and paragliding. Other insurance companies, however, include these disciplines in the category of extreme sports or list some exceptions. The factor determining whether or not to be an extreme sport may be the place where it is carried out and the weather and climatic conditions that are favourable to it. An example of such an attraction is mountain trekking, which is classified as an extreme sport if it is practiced above 3500 m above sea level.
Despite the differences in definitions, the entities adopt a common position, defining extreme sports as activities practiced in difficult conditions and burdened with a certain risk. It is worth mentioning that undertaking extreme activities requires not only courage, but above all proper preparation and physical fitness. Not everyone who would like to parachute jump can afford it.
Adrenaline sports – what are they?
